Customized Programs

HHF has designed a innovative pilot program for its rural projects. In partnership with One-Economy, HHF is offering broadband internet access and computers to its residents. This program will use technology as a digital connector to connect residents to the community and give them access to information and education. Our customized home page will provide residents with links to education, employment, community events, financial information and many other services that give individuals the tools to shape their future.

Horizon Housing Foundation has completed the first successful year of this program. After 6 months in the program, the initial 46 participants experienced a collective 15% annual income increase, resulting in a 20% decrease in subsidized rental assistance. At the end of one full year of participation, there was an increase of $32,000 (21%) in working income amongst participants in the program. 20% of residents completed higher education coursework, 90% of them being single moms. 75% of children increased their grades or maintained them and 50% of them participated in outside educational activities with the technology program. Additionally 75% of senior residents reported better quality of life: increased communication with family, more knowledge of prescription medications and medical issues, more connection with the community and the world, and more convenient ways to monitor finances and social security. In the month of July, users transferred approximately 226.78 GB of data.
